Whoever
does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8
Last summer, my daughter’s husband accepted a new
position in another town, so she and their two small children lived with my
husband and me as they closed on their current home and purchased a home closer
to Andrew’s place of employment.
Though I know they were anxious to get reunited as a family, I loved
seeing my daughter and my precious grandsons, Hudson and Beau, on a daily
basis. Seeing their sweet faces
each morning blessed my heart!
Hudson, my daughter’s two-year old son, often
would ask me as I came home from work each day, “How was work, Gammy….
good?” His sweet question made me
smile and I would give him a big hug and tell him that I had a good day. However, another phrase that I often
heard him say during their stay melted my heart. Hudson would be playing or watching a movie and out of the
blue would say, “Gammy, I love you so much”. These sweet words brought tears to my eyes every time! I longed and loved to hear his sweet
voice express his love to me. Those precious words would immediately lift my
spirit and bring such joy to my heart.
Hudson’s unconditional expression of love blessed
me. Yet, my Heavenly Father loves
me unconditionally too. Unlike
Hudson, my Heavenly Father knows everything about me.
Psalm
139:13 says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my
mother’s womb”.
God created me and knows me inside and out. He knows my every thought…He knows every good and bad
thought that I have ever had. He
knows every word that I have ever spoken.
He has viewed my every action.
And even when I am not loveable, God still loves me. “God
is love”, 1 John 4:8.
Though I look forward to hearing my precious
grandson tell me that he loves me, I need to tune into God’s voice so that I
can hear his gentle words of love speaking to me on a daily basis. I need to long for his voice and be
encouraged and lifted up by his unconditional love for me. Just as I tune in to listen for
Hudson’s sweet words of love, may I be just as attentive to God’s tender voice
speaking words of encouragement and love to me. May I always have ears to hear,
and then be willing to share my love unconditionally, just as God does.
Dear
Heavenly Father…thank you for loving me unconditionally, even when I am not
very loveable. Help me to be the
tangible touch of Jesus to others around me, sharing your love with each and
every person that I meet.
