Taste and See that the Lord is good

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.  Psalm 34:8

Baking cookies with my grandsons is such a delight!  I love their excitement as we pull up a chair to the counter for them to stand on, so they can be right there to assist me every step of the way!

Not only are they close to help me measure and pour all of the yummy ingredients into a mixing bowl, but they are quick to dip their chubby little fingers into the batter for a quick taste!  Their eyes light up as they laugh at the fun we are having!   And often throughout the preparations, I hear their expressions of enjoyment as lots of...Mmmmmm’s...are expressed after they sample the delicious treats!  And they are quick to let me know how yummy the sweet mixture is!

And of course, several little chocolate chips are popped into their mouths before they make it into the bowl!  But who can blame them…I’m right there with them as I pop a few of the sweet morsels into my mouth as well!

My daughter recently sent me the sweetest picture of Hudson and Beau mixing up a batch of Peanut Butter Gems!  It’s a cherished recipe passed down from my Grandma Thomas and has been a favorite of my children for years, and now is becoming a favorite of my grandchildren!  This simple recipe tastes like Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups, so obviously they are a favorite with us!

I couldn’t help but smile as I looked at the picture of these sweet little boys licking the beaters!  Their smiles and delight in the treat that their Mama was making them was such a blessing to view!

As they licked those beaters, I knew they were enjoying the sweet treat and finding out how good it was!  And I was remind of the scripture that says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him”.  Psalm 34:8.

God invites us to taste and see how good he is.  He invites us to walk with Him…to trust Him…to obey Him and see how wonderful He is.  Often, we shun his invitation, preferring to do things our own way, ignoring God’s invitation to come to Him.

As I stared at the joy of these precious little boys sampling the sweet mixture that was on the beaters, I quickly realized that I needed to do the same in my spiritual life.  I need to daily taste and see that the Lord is good.  I don’t want to miss sampling what God has for me each day!

And just as these sweet boys were finding joy in the treat that their Mama had made them, I know that I will find great joy in what God has for me to sample each day.

Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for this sweet reminder to taste and see that you are good.  Lord, you desire the very best for us and I don’t want to miss an opportunity to sample all that you have for me each day.  Thank you for your sweet invitation to join you each day and see that you are
