Do not be overcome by evil, but
overcome evil with good…Romans 12:21.
Last month, my oldest grandson had his fourth birthday party! His Birthday Party theme this year was Ninja
Turtles! It was absolutely adorable!
I have to confess, I do not really know a lot about this group of
turtles! I know there are four turtles,
and each turtle wears a different colored headband! This is the extent of my “turtle” knowledge!
I recently had an opportunity to learn a little more about this group of
Turtles. While watching Hudson and Beau
one afternoon, Hudson woke up from his nap before his brother and asked me if
we could watch one of his Ninja Turtle videos.
This was a perfect opportunity for me to become better acquainted with
this group of turtles and what they were all about!
This is what I learned…
The turtles are named after four Renaissance artists...(I may or may not
have googled this information to make sure I provided correct information)!
Leonardo wears a blue mask.
Michelangelo
wears an orange mask and loves pizza!!
(However, I think all of the turtles eat a lot of pizza).
Raphael
wears a dark red mask.
Donatello
wears a purple mask.
Splinter is a mutant rat and the Turtles’ sensei and trains the Turtles
in the art of Ninjutsu.
April is a television news reporter and embarks in many of the Turtles
adventures and aids them by doing work in public that they cannot.
Shredder is the leader of the Foot Clan and appears to be the villain in
this show. He is the archenemy of
Splinter and the Turtles.
The Turtles’ make their home in the sewers of New York City and battle
petty criminals, evil overlords, mutated creatures and alien invaders while
attempting to remain hidden from society!
Hudson was very patient with me as I asked different questions and
repeatedly asked which turtle was which!
I finally realized their initials were on their belts and by the end of
the show, I think I knew the names of each Turtle and the color of headband each
turtle wore!
This group of Turtles appears to be a jovial group…eating lots of pizza
and just trying to do good by overcoming evil!
They desire to do what is right!
The fictional Turtle characters face fictional villains and evil in
their show. Unfortunately, the world in
which we live today is filled with a very real evil! Temptation is all around us and if we are not
careful, we can easily be overcome by evil!
The Turtles are not the only ones who deal with a villain…so do we! God’s word tells us to…”Be alert and of sober mind. Your
enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour…1 Peter 5:8.
Our enemy is a thief who comes
only to steal and kill and destroy.
But God says…”I have come that
they may have life, and have it to the full”…John 10:10.
God’s word says… Do not be
overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good…Romans 12:21. God tells us to hate what is evil; cling to what is good…Romans 12:9.
Just as the Turtles needed to be on guard, so should we! When the Turtles’ enemy attacked, they were
standing guard, prepared to do battle.
God tell us to...”Watch and pray so that you will not fall into
temptation. The spirit is willing, but
the flesh is weak”…Matthew 26:41.
Precious ones…do not let yourself be the one that the enemy devours.
We know that the enemy comes to steal…kill…and destroy! Knowing this, we need to be alert and ready…praying…reading
God’s word…fellowshipping with other believers so that we can encourage one
another!
Just as the Turtles overcome evil with their Ninjutsu…let’s be on our
knees…battling evil in prayer and with the word of God!
Dear Heavenly Father…I pray that
you help us to be alert to the evil around us so that when temptation knocks at
our door, we are prepared to stand against!
Lord, thank you that when we are weak…you are our strength! Help us to overcome evil with good.
