White as Snow

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord.  “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as now; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”  Isaiah 1:18

When I was younger, our winters often consisted of snowstorms and blizzards that might last a couple of days.  To our delight, this allowed us to get out of school early as the drifts began to form!

In addition, those blizzards would provide us with a child’s favorite phrase in the winter – Snow Day!  Waking up to a winter wonderland was every child’s dream, but hearing the word Snow Day caused much excitement in many homes!

This meant child could spend the day enjoying the winter wonderland.  Creating snow angels, building snow forts that included intense snowball fights, and making snow ice cream were just a few of the activities that would fill those days!

The past few weekends have brought back those childhood memories!  We have awakened snow falling, creating a beautiful winter wonderland.

I have to confess; I love the first snowfall of the season and probably get as excited as most young children do!  I love watching the huge snowflakes drift to the ground, slowly covering the ground with its white blanket!

It’s absolutely breathtaking!  It’s even more beautiful in the morning.  Waking up to God’s beautiful masterpiece is incredible!  The world appears to be without blemish as the pure white snow covers everything within eyesight!

However, this picturesque portrait soon diminishes as patches of gray and black begin to stain the flawless portrait.  You quickly realize the world around us is not perfectly white and without flaws!

It’s similar to our lives.  Each of us has areas where sin creeps in, filling our hearts with darkness.  If not confessed, those sins fill our hearts, appearing as dark, black stains.

If we don’t confess the sin, repent and turn away from it, our hearts begin to look very similar to snowfall many days after it is has fallen…revealing the gray and black patches, which diminishes the beauty that was once there!

Thankfully, Jesus came to save us from our sins.  God’s word says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sings and purify us from all unrighteousness”.  I John 1:9

God loved us so much that he sent his son to die on the cross for our sins, cleansing us from all our sins, making our hearts as white as snow.  And though I am thankful for the beauty of snow-covered world, I am more thankful for His cleansing!

Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for sending your son to die on the cross for my sins.  I am so thankful for the opportunity to confess my sins, repent and ask you into my heart as my Lord and Savior!  Lord, thank you for washing away all my sins, making my heart as white as snow.
