O Be Careful, Little Eyes...

Several weeks ago my oldest son, Zach, told Graham that he was going to take him to get a haircut!

Graham immediately responded…”I want to get my hair cut like Papa’s!!

Unfortunately, his mother quickly responded with a firm “No”

Monday evening, we went to watch Graham play T-Ball, and then joined them for dinner!

Sitting at the table…with Papa’s ball cap on, Graham said again…”I want to get my hair cut like Papa’s!”

I had to smile as I looked at this sweet boy…proudly wearing papa’s ball cap….stating his desire to get the same cut as Papa’s!

Mind you…It’s not that Papa has a fancy haircut…or even a lot of hair!

He is actually balding on top, but it appears that Graham likes that look and thinks it would be cool to have the same style as Papa!

As I pondered Graham’s desire to get his hair cut like Papa’s, I was reminded of a children’s bible song:

O be careful little eyes what you see
O be careful little eyes what you see
There's a Father up above
And He's looking down in love
So, be careful little eyes what you see

O be careful little ears what you hear
O be careful little ears what you hear
There's a Father up above
And He's looking down in love
So, be careful little ears what you hear

O be careful little hands what you do
O be careful little hands what you do
There's a Father up above
And He's looking down in love
So, be careful little hands what you do

O be careful little feet where you go
O be careful little feet where you go
There's a Father up above
And He's looking down in love
So, be careful little feet where you go

O be careful little mouth what you say
O be careful little mouth what you say
There's a Father up above
And He's looking down in love
So, be careful little mouth what you say

Not only are our children…our grandchildren watching us, but so is our Heavenly Father!

He is looking down in love…and he sees and knows what our eyes are viewing…what our ears are listening to…what our hands our doing…where our feet are taking us…and what our mouth is saying!

I desire for my husband and me to be a Godly example to our children and grandchildren!

I desire that everything we say and do would be pleasing to the Lord…and bring glory and honor to His name!

When one of our grandchildren says…”I want to be like papa”….or “I want to do what Gammy is doing”…

I want to be sure that those actions are acceptable to the Lord…and HE is smiling as he looks down upon one of those grandchildren following in the steps of Papa and me!

Matthew 18:6 states…If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

To cause one of God’s children (whether that is a young child or someone young in the faith) to sin is a serious matter!

God even states that he will severely punish anyone who causes a young child to lose faith!

As I watch my precious grandsons growing in the ways of the Lord…I desire to set a Godly example before them!

I know there will be times that I will mess up (just as I did when raising my own children), but I am so thankful that God’s grace is sufficient for me too!

So in the days ahead…you just might hear me humming…O be careful, little eyes…as a reminder that I have seven little grandsons that are…

Watching what I am doing…

Listening to what I am saying…

And often trying to follow in my footsteps!

It’s a huge responsibility that I do not take lightly!!

So let me ask…who is watching you and listening to what you are saying??

Maybe you would like to join me in humming or singing that children’s bible song…as a reminder that not only is our Heavenly Father looking down upon us…but little ones are also looking up to us!!

Let’s encourage on another in our words and actions…so that we set a Godly example to those around us!

Dear Heavenly Father…help each of us to always bring glory and honor to your name in our thoughts…words and actions!  Let us encourage the little ones walking in our footsteps to do what is pleasing in your sight as well!
