In a World of Chaos...

The dictionary defines the word chaos as…“A state of utter confusion or disorder; a total lack of organization or order”.

That’s not me!

I am an orderly person!

I like thinks neat and tidy!

But right now, I am living in chaos!

We purchased a home at the beginning of the summer and we are remodeling…and yes, living in the home while we remodel!

I have done this in the past!

We have remodeled and built a home and lived in them while the remodeling was going on!

But honestly, I had forgotten how difficult it is…and how much all of the mess gets to me!

I look around our home and all I see is a complete lack of order…disarray, which leads to turmoil within me…and everywhere I turn…there is a project waiting to be done!

And when I see all of the projects…I want to tackle each one…complete it…and check it of my long-to-do list!

Unfortunately, some of the projects require skills that I don’t have, such as…

Wiring…I’m not an electrician…

Carpentry…I know how to use a hammer, screwdriver and other smaller tools, but those won’t be enough for some of the projects we have pending!

Painting…Yes, I can do that…but my husband wants to prep all of the walls to his satisfaction…so I have to wait upon him (not something that I am particularly fond of doing…just being honest here)!!

So, I get a little antsy as I wait for projects to be completed…or as I wait for prep work so I can tackle one of those projects!

And then I came to work…summer is coming to an end and a new semester is beginning at
Millikin…so it’s a little crazy at work too!

My desk is covered with endless paperwork…which often becomes an overwhelming mess in itself!

New employees are dropping in daily (and I really do love meeting our new employees)…but they always bring more paperwork…

My office is literally is a rotating door…one person leaves and another comes in…leaving the piles of paperwork on my desk untouched!

In addition to the daily work, projects need to be finished and new projects need to be started!

So, there are some days that I feel I am leaving one chaos to go to another!

And then hear the news!

Our world is in chaos…shootings…terrorist attacks…one right after the earth!

My heart breaks for the numerous families that have been affected these attacks…knowing that they must be feeling broken and devastated with the loss of loved ones!

We have presidential candidates promising what they will do to bring peace to our country…to restore it to the great nation that it once was…while attacking each other as they try to win the next election!

It’s overwhelming!

But as I sat in church this past Sunday, our guest speaker shared from Psalm 11, which stated…

“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?”…Psalm 11:3

The guest pastor continued to share the next verse…

The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne…Psalm 11:4

Did you hear that?

The Lord is HOLY; and He is on his heavenly throne!

Let that soak in!

Let that speak to your spirit…to your heart!

Regardless of what is going on in your life…what is going on in the world around us…God is still in control!

He cares!  He loves us!

And we can…we must…continue to look to Him!  To trust Him.  To put our hope…our faith in Him…the ONE…the only ONE who can truly make a difference!

So we pray!  We bring all of our cares…our concerns…to our Heavenly Father…the One who is Holy…and the One who sits on the heavenly throne!

And then we rest in Him…letting Him soothe our spirits…our hearts…giving us strength for each day!

And He will!  He is Faithful!

Dear Heavenly Father…thank you!  As we look at the chaos that is all around us…thank you for reminding us that you are in your holy temple and that you are sitting on your heavenly throne...and that you hear our prayers!  Thank you for your promise that you will never leave or forsake us!  Thank you for loving us!
