Laminin

Reading stories is part of all of my grandchildren’s bedtime routine!

Their love of books is so precious to me…I love reading too!

And they have accumulated quite the library of their own, so it often takes a little bit of time to choose which book they would like me to read on a particular evening!

And most nights…each child gets to pick a book, so we actually read several books before bedtime!

I also love that they read a story from the bible and/or devotional!

I love that they are learning about God and reading HIS word!

I love the questions they will ask…or what they share after reading a bible story or devotional!

They just bless my heart so much!

How I pray that they will always hunger for God’s word!

A few weeks ago, I was reading a devotional to Hudson, Beau and Gabe about how God created the stars…and how he created each of us!

As I was reading from this devotional, I noticed that he was written by Louie Giglio!

And I was reminded of a lesson that I shared with the teens from one of Louie Giglio’s teachings.

This particular teaching by Louie was on “Laminin”!

You are probably asking yourself…” What’s Laminin”?

I did too when I first heard this word!

Here is how Wikipedia describes Laminin: 

“Laminins are a family of proteins that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding of basement membranes in almost every animal tissue.”

And if you know me very well…you might be surprised that I am even interested in this topic!

Or you might be thinking…what’s the big deal about this?

Laminins are what hold us together…LITERALLY.  

They are cell adhesion molecules.  They are what holds one cell of our bodies to the next cell.  Without them, we would literally fall apart!

You don’t have to be a science nerd to grasp how amazing these molecules are!

Our bodies desperately need these molecules to stay together!

So when I think about creation and how God formed everything…from nothing…I just stand in awe of HIM!

When I think about how he created us...down to the tiniest details…I can’t help but get excited!

But it gets even better!

In this particular teaching, Louie continued to share...

“Laminin…the “glue” that holds us together…ALL OF US…is in the shape of the cross!”

Can you believe it??

Isn’t God amazing!!

Now be honest…you are getting a little more excited about Laminin…aren’t you!

He also references Colossians 1:15-17, which says…

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

For by him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth,

visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;

all things were created by him and for him.  He is before all things,

and in him all things HOLD TOGETHER.”

Louie continued to share this in his teaching...“thoughts of years before the world knew anything about Laminin, Paul penned those words.  And now we see that from a very LITERAL standpoint, we are held together…one cell to another…by the cross.”

Louie wrapped up by saying…” You would never in a quadrillion years convince me that is anything other than the mark of a Creator who knew EXACTLY what Laminin “glue” would look like long before Adam even breathed his first breath!!

I absolutely loved sharing this with my grandchildren!

I pulled up this teaching on YouTube so that they could see a picture of Laminin.

And I told them…that is inside us…holding us together…and it is truly shaped in a cross!

Their little faces were priceless!

And all I could think…all I could share with my grandchildren is…” Only our God could do that!” 

Only our God would shape the molecules that are holding us together are in the shape of a cross!

I love it!
