Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one
of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care…Matthew 10:29.
I love spending time with my grandchildren!
And I never know what fun activities we will be doing when I spend time
with them!
We might go swimming…
We might visit the zoo…
We might go to the museum…
We might go to the park…
We might have a movie night…
We might use our imaginations and pretend we are back on the beach in
Florida…
We might go on a bug hunt…
We might battle the evil in this world with our superheroes…
We might go to the outside market…
Our adventures are endless!
However, the last few visits with Graham and Emmett have sent us on a
rescue mission!
Several weeks ago our plans were to head to the pool, but the rain
changed those plans! Though it was
sprinkling, we still played outside that morning!
As we were playing outside, we suddenly hear Zach calling…”Graham…Emmett…come
here…I have something to show you!”
As we rounded the corner of the house, Zach was leaning over their
window well!
Joining him quickly, we soon learned that their window well was full of
frogs! Some alive…and unfortunately, a
few who had not survived!
Lifting the covering from the window well, Zach climbed inside the well
to begin the Great Frog Rescue! (Actually,
I think he just wanted the frogs out of there)
We all got a kick out of watching daddy as he tried to catch the jumping
frogs! Wearing gloves (which Emmett
refers to as his frog gloves), he caught one frog after another and set them
free!
Graham was the only brave soul who was willing to pick up a frog along
with Daddy!
Emmett looked at them…scrunched up his nose…and said….”Yuck”!
Rachel and I looked at the frogs…but quickly decided this was a job for
daddy and Graham!
I’m not sure the exact number, but I believe we freed over 20 frogs that
day!
However, this wasn’t the only rescue that took place at the Maxwell
house!
A few weeks later, we found another creature trapped inside the same window
well!
Much to our surprise…a baby bird was trapped this time!
Daddy wasn’t home, so it was up to Rachel and me to rescue this little
bird. As Rachel was putting Reece on her
leash, I lifted the covering and climbed down inside!
Thinking the little bird’s foot was trapped…I was not expecting the
little bird to flutter and hop around when I climbed in…so being the brave soul
that I am…I screamed and quickly hopped out!
(Now I know where my daughter might get her slight fear of birds)!!
However, knowing that this little bird needed rescued… (and also knowing
that Graham and Emmett were expecting either mommy or Gammy to save the bird)…I
put on a brave front and hopped back down.
It only seemed fair that I should do this since Rachel is 7 months
pregnant!!
I have to smile when I think about how I jumped each time that little
bird fluttered around! And to top it
off…mama bird was overhead chirping loudly as this stranger was messing with
her baby!
After several attempts…I finally caught the little bird in my frog glove
(Mommy and Emmett made sure we had the right tools to do the job) and set him
on the ground!
I’m happy to say when we checked on this little guy later that afternoon;
he had either hopped or flown to safety!
As I thought of our frog and bird rescues, I was reminded of God’s word,
which says… Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one
of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care…Matthew 10:29.
God cares about the sparrows (or in this case, the baby bird…which may or
may not have been a sparrow) when they fall to the ground.
If our Heavenly Father cares that much about each sparrow…think about
how much more he cares for you and me!
When we are hurting…our Heavenly Father is hurting too!
When we rejoice…God is rejoicing with us!
God knows what we are facing each day…He knows the different situations
we are dealing with…and He cares!
I don’t know what you might be facing today…I don’t know what hurts you
may be dealing with…but I do know that you do not have to face or deal with
these situations alone!
Just as we cautiously and gently lifted numerous frogs and a baby bird
to safety, God desires to lift you up and cradle you in His arm!
Let Him hold you today! Let Him
comfort you! He loves you more than you
can ever imagine!
Dear Heavenly Father…thank you
for fun adventures with my grandsons!
But more importantly, thank you for loving us…caring for us…and holding
us in your loving arms!
