Do you not know?
Have you not heard? The Lord is
the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth…Isaiah 40:28
Not only is our church
focusing on the topic Room for Doubt,
but several churches in the city are focusing on the this topic as well.
We will be discussing this
topic for several weeks, as well as, meeting in small groups to discuss the
topic further!
After listening to last
week’s sermon and sharing in our small group, I have been pondering this topic
all week!
I know there are individuals
who do not believe in God…who do not know Him as their Lord and Savior…who have
no desire to listen or discuss the topic of God.
They are unbelievers, so I
understand that they have doubts?
But as Christians…people who
attend church…do we doubt as well?
As a Christian, I believe
God is who He says he is.
I believe the bible is the
inspired word of God!
I believe the stories
written in the Old Testament really happened…
Noah built an ark…
God parted the Red Sea so
that Moses and Israelites could cross safely…
David killed Goliath…
Daniel did not perish in the
Lion’s den…
Shadrach, Meshach and
Abednego survived the fiery furnace…
Jonah lived in the whale’s
belly…
I believe the miracles that
are mentioned in the New Testament really occurred…
The blind saw…
The deaf heard…
The lame walked…
And many were healed…
Jesus Christ died on the
cross and three days later rose from the dead…
I believe that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday…today…and
forever…Hebrews 13:8.
But for those who doubt…our
sermon message today discussed the Existence
of God!
(Please visit firstdecatur.org to hear the sermon on
September 20, 2015 in its entirety)
Our Pastor shared…”If there’s no God, how do you account for
basic morality in all humans…where did that moral core come from?”
He went on to share that
that God is the author of the moral code.
Our Pastor continued to
share…”The universe is too complicated to
simply be a product of a “big bang” that was precipitated by nothing or no
one”.
Scripture says…”To whom will you compare me”? “Or who is my equal”…says the Holy One. Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who
created all these? He who brings out the
starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty
strength, not one of them is missing…Isaiah 40:26
When we look to the skies…we
see it filled with God’s wonders…each star is named and God calls them out each
night!
When we look around us…we
see the beauty of God’s creation…
The vastness of the oceans…
Trees blooming in the
spring…
Leaves changing colors in
the fall…
Blankets of snow covering
the earth…
A newborn baby…
How can I doubt that God is
who HE says He is!
And though I do not doubt,
there are questions that I have.
There are things that I do
not understand!
However, I am reminded that
scripture says…”For my thoughts are not
your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways”, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so
are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts…Isaiah
55:8-9.
So for the things I don’t
understand…I know that God’s thoughts/ways are not mine…and I choose to trust
Him!
And I believe… The Lord is the everlasting God, the
Creator of the ends of the earth…Isaiah 40:28
Dear Heavenly Father…help us to share your truth with
others who have doubts…who do not believe in you. Give us the words to share so that others
might come to know you. Help us to live
our lives in such a way…that we bring glory and honor to your name!
