Are You Flexible?

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plansProverbs 16:3

For several years, I have been walking/running to help me keep in shape!

However, a few years ago, my daughter introduced me to Beachbody workout programs and Shakeology!

So today, I drink Shakeology almost every morning (it probably is my healthiest meal of the day), and incorporate the different Beachbody’s workout programs into my weekly routine!

And I often join my daughter’s different challenge (support) groups to encourage me throughout my fitness journey and to have the accountability of others who are also doing the same workout!

Plus, it is something I get to share with my daughter…it’s a win/win for me!

In addition to walking and riding my bike, over the last few years I have complete the following Beachbody workout programs…Insanity…P90X3…21-Day Fix…Brazilian Butt Lift…Pilates…Hip Hop Abs…Cize…and have repeated the different workouts numerous times the last few years!

During these workouts, I have…

Completed intense and totally insane cardio workouts…

Used weights and/or resistance bands…

Stretched my muscles with Yoga and Pilates moves…

Learned a few Brazilian dance moves…

And even attempted to become a back-up dancer in Shaun T’s next video as I followed his fast-paced Hip Hop moves in his latest workout – Cize!

I have sweated…stretched...jumped…ran….collapsed after one too many push-ups…attempted chin-ups (this girl has no upper body strength)…performed crunches until my abs ached…and too many other moves to mention!

I am sure that my moves don’t quite match the trainers on the videos…but I do give it my best shot!!

Currently, I am doing PiYo…and you might be asking yourself…what is PiYo?

PiYo, developed by Chalene Johnson, combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of Yoga.

This workout cranks up the speed to deliver a fat-burning, low-impact working that will hopefully give you a long, lean and defined body.

Over the years, I have spent very little time on stretching, so my muscles are tight!

My daughter is much, much more flexible, but this workout is a challenge for me!

 My beautiful daughter...

I am not flexible at all, so my goal is to become more flexible…more limber…and maybe a little less stiff after my different workouts!

However, there are other areas in my life that I need to become more flexible in as well!

I am a planner!  In addition, I am also a list-maker!

So, I find great satisfaction in sticking to the plans I have made, as well as, crossing a line through the tasks on my long to-do list!

And worse…I often set a time frame for myself to complete this long to-do list!

To accomplish this, I have to stay focused and not let interruptions distract me!  This allows me to just keep working my way through my to-do list!

However, there are many days when God’s plans are different than my plans!

He may want to interrupt my day with something more important…someplace He would rather me be than focusing on than crossing off the items on my to-do list!

Maybe it is dropping what I am doing to help my children or grandchildren (this one is easy for me…. I love spending time with them)!

Maybe a neighbor needs my immediate help!  Do I ignore my list and help them instead?

Or maybe a dear friend wants to meet for coffee or lunch…just to share what is on her heart!

But what about the interruptions that are quite as pleasant!

A leaky sink…

A clogged toilet…

Taking my car to the shop for repairs…

If I am honest, I can get a little irritable with the not so pleasant interruptions!

But God’s word says… Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plansProverbs 16:3.

I need to commit my plans each day to the Lord!

Yes, I can make plans for the day…and I can even make my to-do list, but I need to be open to what God has planned for me each day!

And whatever His plans are…I need to go about those plans with a cheerful heart!

Just as I am trying to stretch my muscles in my PiYo workouts, I need to allow God to stretch me in this area as well!

Not only do I need to become more flexible physically…I need to be more flexible mentally and spiritually!

Being flexible isn’t always easy, but if I commit my day to the Lord…He will establish my plans and will fill my day with His purpose for my life!

So, I am choosing to be more flexible in all areas of my life!  How I pray you will join me in this area as well!

Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for stretching me each day!  I pray that each of us will commit our days to you…seeking your will…and your plans for us!  And whatever those plans are…help us to accomplish those tasks…your plans…with sweet and cheerful spirits!
