Prince Charming

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light…1 Peter 2:9.

Last Saturday was Halloween!  My daughter invited her siblings, her in-laws and us over for dinner, prior to going trick-or-treating!

My oldest son and his wife couldn’t join us; their new little one…Joel…wasn’t even a week old yet!

It was a fun evening!  We had crockpot pizza, garlic bread and a yummy dessert that my daughter had made!

After dinner, it was time for the little ones to get dressed up!

We had two firemen…just as handsome as they could be!

We had one Dalmatian puppy…cute as a button!

And we had one little monkey…absolutely adorable!

It was drizzling a little when we left, so we grabbed umbrellas and the wagon for the Dalmatian puppy!

The monkey was three months old that night, so his parents decided it was best to keep him in out of the drizzling rain!

My daughter and husband live in a charming neighborhood filled with children!  As the rain subsided, the streets filled with parents and children…adorned in creative costumes for the occasion!

As the streets filled with children laughing and skipping alongside their parents, I told my daughter that it was something right out of a Hallmark movie…it was picture-perfect!

That evening we saw…

Knights and damsels…

Mary Poppins and Bert (best costume ever)…

Cowboys and Indians…

Hunters and turkeys…

Mickey and Minnie…

Star Wars Characters…

Baymax from Big Hero 6…

Ninja turtles…

Batman…Spiderman…Thor…Captain America and many other Superheroes…

And so much more!

However, I have to share my favorite costume of the evening!

When we returned to my daughter’s house, we were sitting in the garage, passing out candy to the continuous stream of trick-or-treaters!

At one point, a little girl dressed up in a gown came to the garage.  And though her costume was adorable, what touched my heart was the gentleman standing in the driveway!

It was the little girl’s father dressed as Prince Charming!

Seriously, I have tears coming to my eyes as I picture that precious daddy waiting patiently as his little princess came in to get a few pieces of candy!

And tears continue to come as I imagine this father, dressed as his little girl’s prince, proudly escorting his little princess around the neighborhood!

His outfit was identical to Cinderella’s Prince Charming!

I can only imagine how special this little girl must have felt…having her daddy walk alongside her…cherishing his little princess with so much love, that he was willing to dress up as her Prince that evening!

I’m sure it is a night that this little girl will never forget!

And nor will I!

Fortunately, this daddy and this little girl are not the only princes and princesses!

Scripture tells us that we can all become members of a royal priesthood!

God’s word says… But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light…1 Peter 2:9.

As Christians, we are God’s chosen people…God’s special possession!
Just as royalty are born into their family, when we ask Jesus Christ into our hearts as our Lord and Savior, we are born again…and we become a part of his royal family!

I love knowing that I am a child of God…part of a royal priesthood...a holy nation!

God called me out of the darkness into His wonderful light!

My desire is to live differently than those of this world!

My desire is that I may live a holy life, shining as a light in this dark world, bringing glory and honor to my Heavenly Father!

And just as the little princess will always remember the night that her daddy dressed up as her prince, I will always remember the moment I asked Jesus Christ into my heart…the moment I become a part of his royal family!

Dear Ones, if you haven’t asked Jesus Christ into your hearts as your Lord and Savior, I pray you will do so now!

I pray that you too will become part of God’s royal priesthood…part of his holy nation!

Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for the sweet picture of a daddy escorting his little princess around town, but more importantly, thank you for desiring that each of us become a part of your royal family!  Thank you for calling us out of darkness and into your glorious light!  How we praise your Holy, Holy name!
