Knitting...one stitch at a time...

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb…Psalm 139:13

Last spring I was invited to join several ladies at our church who knit squares (which will be turned into blankets) for children in Africa!

I haven’t knitted in years, but joined the group and remembered how much I enjoy knitting!

So, I ventured out of my comfort zone and thought I would try knitting a baby blanket for a grandson that was about to be born last summer (this would be my first attempt at knitting a blanket).

I started the blanket while we were vacationing with my daughter and her family last summer, and while working on the blanket, one of her sons…better known as Beau Bear…asked if I would make him a blanket too!

How could I resist this sweet face!

After speaking with a more experienced knitter, we agreed on the number of stitches that should be cast to create a nice size blanket for this three year-old darling!

I spent the next several months…knitting and pearling…

I knitted while I watched TV…

I knitted when I babysat for my grandchildren (of course, only after I had tucked them into bed)…

I knitted during long car rides…

I basically knitted whenever I had a few moments!

However, the holidays came and there was very little time to work on this blanket, so I knew it would not be ready before Christmas!

However, much to my pleasure, I finally completed the blanket a few weeks ago!

And this week, I was blessed and so excited to give it to our little Beau!

I think he likes it!

While knitting, I would think of this precious grandson who had so sweetly asked me to make him a blanket!

And I would pray for him! Often, I would think about what a gift he is to his parents and the rest of his family!

And mostly, I would just think about how much I love this child!

And then I thought of how much God loves him…more than I can even imagine!

And I was reminded of this scripture… For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb…Psalm 139:13.

I think of how careful I was each time I picked up my knitting needles…taking my time to knit each stitch to create a beautiful blanket for my grandson!

I wanted this gift to be perfect for him!

And I realized God knows all about knitting too! His word states that HE knit us in our mother’s womb! He created us!

Just as I imagined and tried to picture what the blanket would look like as I added stitch after stitch…I thought to myself…as God was knitting us…HE knew what we would look like too!

I can imagine him picturing us as He created us…

The color or our eyes…

The shape of our noses…

Curly or straight hair…

I can picture God smiling as he knits each of us together…creating the miracle that HE had already pictured in his mind!

And once HE has completed knitting each child…I picture him standing back and saying…”It is good”!

Oh dear ones…can’t you just imagine how much God loves us! He created us! He formed us in our mother’s womb! He knows every single detail about us!

And think about it…God knits every single child with that same special care! Each of us is special in His eyes!

And just as God knits each child with great care…I too am picking back up my knitting needles.

Hudson, Beau’s older brother has asked me to know him a blanket too! So this process begins again!

And now I am thinking and praying for Hudson as I knit each stitch…smiling…because I know our Heavenly Father is knitting right alongside me!

Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for the great care that you take in creating and knitting each of us together! Thank you for loving each of us so deeply…for each of us.
