Look Up!!

I will look up for there is none above You…I will bow down to tell You that I need You…
Jesus Lord of all, Jesus Lord of all…Lyrics from Elevation Worship

As we step into this New Year, many of us our making New Year’s resolutions!

I don’t really make New Year’s resolutions!

However, I tend to ask myself…what does God want me to do this year?  Where does God want me?  Where do I need to grow?  How can I draw closer to my Heavenly Father this year?

As I pondered these questions, the phrase “Look up” repeatedly spoke to my spirit and I couldn’t shake those words!

What did it mean?  And why was God speaking this to my heart?

I honestly think God began speaking to me during a movie that my husband and I rented right after Christmas…War Room.

I had wanted to see this movie at the theaters, but my husband was out of town, so I was quite excited when he rented it and I was finally able to watch it!

Those who know me well will not be surprised that tears poured down my cheeks several times throughout the movie!

I loved the entire message of the movie!I

I specifically loved the idea of creating a “War Room” in our home…a place of prayer…a quiet place to spend time alone with God…a place to study His word!

It’s not that I wasn’t reading my bible…praying or doing daily devotions, but I liked the idea of creating that intimate spot where God and I could meet daily…completely alone and undisturbed by the demands of daily life!

And though I have done my devotions in the morning in the past, I wanted to set aside even more time to spend with the Lord, which meant getting up a little earlier each morning!

What better way to start my day…the New Year... than spending more time with our Heavenly Father.

So, I did just that!  I created my own little “War Room”, which I am extremely thrilled with!

And this is where God began to reveal what He was speaking to my heart concerning “looking up”!

Have you noticed that as a society we walk around with our heads down?

Not only do we walk with our heads down, but we are completely unaware of our
surroundings!

Why?

Because we are so focused on the gadget that we are holding in our hands!

We are either texting…tweeting…posting on FB…looking at the internet…or doing numerous other tasks that on our smart phones!

Don’t get me wrong…I love my smart phone and I am just as guilty as the next person!

But what am I missing when I am always looking down?

I am missing the opportunity to live in the moment!

I am missing an opportunity to see…hear…what is going on right around me.

If I am more focused on making that FB post…seeing what is going on in the lives of others (and please hear me…I love reading about you…seeing the pictures you post…and hearing what is going on in each of your lives)…I love each of you and your families dearly!

However, if this is becoming a priority in my life, I am going to miss what is going on right in front of me!

I am going to miss all of the wonderful things that are happening at that moment!

I don’t want to miss seeing a beautiful sunrise or a glorious sunset!

don’t want to miss sharing moments with my husband and adult children…seeing their smiling faces…hearing their laughter…missing what they are saying because I am too distracted!

I don’t want to miss seeing the smiles on my grandson’s faces!

I don’t want to miss enjoying the moment that I am in!

So, God is gently encouraging me to “Look up”!

And I believe the message God was sharing with me was confirmed this past Sunday morning during church service.

Our praise and worship time opened up with this song…I will look up!

The words to the chorus of I will look up…by Elevation Worship...are shared below!

I will look up for there is none above you
I will bow down to tell you that I need You
Jesus Lord of all
Jesus Lord of all

I will look up for there is none above you
I will bow down to tell you that I need You
Jesus Lord of all
Jesus Lord of all

I will look back and see that you are faithful
I look ahead believing you are able
Jesus Lord of all
Jesus Lord of all

What God had been speaking to my heart the past few weeks was being sung during service!  All I could do was lift my hands and praise our Heavenly Father!

Yes, you will still see me using my smart phone…posting on Facebook, but hopefully, you will also see me enjoying each moment…setting aside anything that would distract me from spending quality time with God…my family…and treasured friends!

So this year, I am encouraging you to “Look up” as well!  Live in the moment…and count the many blessings that are all around you!

Dear Heavenly Father…I pray as we begin and new year that each of us desire to spend more time with you…in prayer…in reading and studying the bible…providing us an opportunity to develop a deeper relationship with you!  And lord, if that means that some of us need to “Look up” a little more…help us to do just that!
