Am I alive....Can I Sleep on you??

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you…Matthew 7:7.

Recently I played a game with two of my grandsons, Hudson and Beau, called Hedbanz!

Each player places a plastic headband on his or her head.  And each headband has a small slot, allowing each player to place a picture card in the slot.  However, you cannot view the picture in your headband; only the other players can view your picture.

The player then gets to ask several yes or no questions to the other players, hoping that the questions being asked will provide that player an opportunity to guess the picture that is in the headband!

Mind you…all of these directions were provided by an almost 5-year old and a 3-year old, but I think we were following the rules of the game fairly well!

There was an assortment of picture cards…

Pictures of animals…

Pictures of foods…

Pictures of objects…

The variety of pictures was endless!

And you could ask all sorts of questions, such as…

Am I an animal?

Am I a fruit?

Am I a vegetable?

Am I something you wear?

You get the picture (no pun intended)!

After a few rounds, I quickly realized that Beau, our little three year old had played the game a few times.  However, he only had two questions?

Am I alive?

Can I sleep on you?

And then he would repeat these questions?  I’m not sure why these two questions were so important, but Beau would ask them with the utmost confidence…assuming there was no need to ask any additional questions!

So, we encouraged him to ask some different questions to help him guess the picture that was on his headband!

I also learned that this little three-year old doesn’t always answer with a simple yes or no?

He would provide additional information, often describing the picture with great detail!

For example…when Hudson was wearing a picture of different colored balloons, Beau told him there was a blue, green and red one….they were round…and had a long string attached to them…way more information than should have been provided!

However, if I am completely honest…those extra clues helped!

It’s hard to think of different questions to ask…and there were a wide range of pictures…so trying to think of questions that would help you to guess your picture in the allotted time was difficult!  So yes, I was thankful for the extra clues my three-year old provided!

Later that evening, I caught myself smiling as I pictured the three of us sitting around the table with plastic headbands on our heads, asking all sorts of questions.

And then I thought of the numerous questions that I sometimes ask God?

What is your will for me life?

Where would you like me to serve?

Is this the direction you are leading me?

I desire a deeper relationship with you…am I spending enough time with you…in the word…in prayer…to deepen that relationship with you?

Just as in the game…my questions are endless?

Sometimes I ask a question that merely needs to be answered with a simple yes or no, but sometimes I want a much more elaborate answer!

I want details…and more information about a situation!

And I am reminded of God’s word, which tells us… Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you…Matthew 7:7.

God’s word encourages me to ask!  He desires that I bring my questions…my cares…my concerns to Him!

Prayer is a time that we can come before the Lord, lifting up our needs and asking God for wisdom, guidance, direction…a time to share whatever is on our hearts.

We not only need to pray, but we need to pray often…earnestly asking God to hear and answer our prayers.

God also encourages me to seek Him!  And I need to seek him just as earnestly!

If you or I had lost something of great value…a treasured heirloom…would we not search all over until the lost item had been found!

God desires us to seek Him just as fervently!

And we should knock as one who desires to enter a house would knock at the door….expecting the door to be opened and we would be invited in!

And just as His word says, God desires to open the door and provide us knowledge, wisdom, and direction for our lives!

God desires each of us to come to Him…young or old…rich or poor…master or servant…learned or unlearned…all are welcome to the throne of grace.

God is all-wise.  He knows what we need, what we desire, and what is best for us.

So, let’s pray…trusting and believing God hears our prayers…answers those prayers…in His timing…and according to what HE believes is best for us!

So ask…seek…and knock!

Dear Heavenly Father…thank you that we can come before you with our cares and concerns!  Thank you that you love us so much that you care about every prayer request that is lifted to you and desire to give good gifts to your children.  Thank you for loving us unconditionally!
