On Your Mark...Get Set...Go!!

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize…1 Corinthians 9:24.

I love celebrating Easter!

I love attending church service on Easter morning!

I love hearing pastors preach the good news…that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and rose from the grave three days later!

I love knowing the truth behind this message…that all of those who ask Jesus Christ into their hearts as Lord and Savior will spend eternity with Him!

This is the greatest message that each of us will ever hear!

And after attending church service, I love spending time with family!

I am filled with great joy when it works out for all of us to gather together to enjoy an Easter lunch/dinner as a family!

I am so thankful and praise our Heavenly Father that each of my children and their spouses know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and are teaching their children about Jesus!

Having the assurance that my family is walking with the Lord, we look forward to participating (and with much enthusiasm I might add) in many of fun activities associated with Easter!

Coloring eggs…and yes, with six little ones…it can be challenging to make sure that no colored water gets spilt…and no eggs are dropped and cracked!

Watching the little ones scurry across the yard to gather Easter eggs melts this Gammy’s heart!

And making sure that not too much candy is popped into little mouths when mamas and daddies aren’t watching can be a full-time job!

And watching my sweet grandchildren excitedly pull items out of their Easter baskets is such a blessing!

And this year we started a new family tradition!

An Easter Egg Hunt for the big kids (aka…my adult children)!

I am so thankful that we did the adult egg hunt separate from the little ones…I’m afraid my darling grandchildren may have been left behind trying to keep up with their mama’s and daddy’s!

As you can see…my older children took this seriously!

My husband and I laughed as we watched our adult children racing across the yard…trying to choose and gather the eggs that might be filled with the best treasures!

Mind you…their eggs were filled with more than just candy!

To make it a little more exciting…dollars and gift cards were hidden in some of the eggs along with candy!

And though each big kid found treasures, I think Bekah and Rachel might have scored big time this year!

However, Jay and Tori won big too!  They had 4 of the 6 gift cards!

As I watched my children dashing across the yard (and it appears might have even challenged each other a little during the hunt)….

I was reminded of God’s word… Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize…1 Corinthians 9:24.

In 1 Corinthians, Paul was referring to games that took place near Corinth every two years!

Paul also knew that those who took part in the games had to train hard for about ten months prior to the event!

Those participating in the games knew it would not benefit them to slack off during their time of training!

They needed to be prepared for what lay ahead of them!

As Christians, we also need to run/train in a similar way so that we too may receive the prize.

My competitive children definitely illustrated runners running in such a way to receive the prize on Sunday!

However, the rewards my children sought during their fun were temporary, and have no lasting value (just a lot of fun for all of them)!!

The rewards Christians receive for running a good race are eternal…getting to spend eternity in Heaven.

So let us run the race in such a way that we receive the eternal prize!

And maybe we should run with as much enthusiasm and intensity as my big kids J

Dear Heavenly Father!  Thank you for the message that we hear on Easter!  Thank you for sending your son…and for raising him from death!  Help each of us to run in such a way that we receive the prize!
