I love
hearing the prayers of my grandchildren!
I have
listened to them pray…
Before
meals…
At
bedtime…
And they
have prayed for various other things throughout the days or evenings that I
spend with them!
I love that
when mommy and date are having a date night…they pray for them to return home
safely.
I love
how they include me in their prayers too…praying Gammy will have a safe trip
home after watching them!
I love
how they pray for other family members…inviting God into different situations!
I love
how while on vacation last year, I saw little Emmet clasp his hands
together…bow his head…and begin to pray when he heard a siren!
His
tender little heart was praying for whoever might need God’s touch as he heard
that distant siren!
Talk
about blessing this Gammy’s heart!
I often
have tears streaming down my cheeks as I listen to their prayers being lifted
before the Lord!
And
while they are praying…I keep my head bowed…praying for those little ones as
they pray!
However,
recently, I had to stifle a chuckle as I listened to Hudson’s prayer one
evening!
On that
particular evening, I had been given instructions that Beau Bear had to be in
bed by 7:00 p.m. since he didn’t nap that day!
However,
Hudson and Gabe could stay up until 7:30 p.m. that evening!
You are
probably already imagining how this played out when 7:00 p.m. rolled around
that night!
When it
was Beau’s bedtime, I turned on a show for Hudson and Gabe and proceeded to
march little Beau to bed!
Tears
were streaming down his cheeks as we headed to his bedroom!
I prayed
with him…tucked him in…gave him a kiss and a super big hug and told him how
much I loved him!
With
tears in his eyes, Beau told me that he just couldn’t go to sleep when he was
all alone in his room!
Mind
you, those tears pricked this tender Gammy’s heart, and I hugged him some more…tucked
his blankets in closer around him…and told him that I would be back to check on
him in just a bit!
Wanting
to honor his mama’s wishes, I turned out the light and headed out to the family
room to join the other two boys!
Before
I could even join the boys on the couch…I turned to see Beau standing in the
family room…holding his lovies…crying…saying that he needed me!
So, of
course…I picked him up and carried him down the hallway…prayed over him
again…tucked him back in…and brushed away his tears!
I
stayed with him a few more minutes before joining the other boys!
This
happened several times before it was time to put Hudson and Gabe to bed!
When I
announced that it was time for Hudson and Gabe to go to bed…Hudson was quite
put out with Beau!
And he
made sure God knew it!
As I
bowed my head to listen to Hudson’s prayer, his prayer went something like
this:
“Dear God…please let
Beau know that he took all of my time with
Gammy tonight! And Beau shouldn’t do that! When he was supposed
to be in bed…it was
my time with Gammy!! I (Hudson) didn’t
get any time
with her at all
tonight so you need to make sure Beau doesn’t do that
again…In Jesus
name…Amen”
The little
prayer continued for several minutes…
Hudson prayed
a very detailed prayer…making sure that God truly understood that Beau had
taken his Gammy time!
Seriously,
I had to stifle a chuckle as I listened to Hudson’s prayer!
I knew
Hudson was praying intently…and was truly pouring out his heart…his
frustrations to our Heavenly Father!
And to
top it off…as I was taking Gabe to his room…I heard Hudson say…”Beau, did you
hear my prayer?”
Not
only did Hudson want to make sure that God had heard his prayer…but he wanted
Beau to know that he meant business…and had told God all about it!
And I
was reminded of God’s word, which states…”And
pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and
requests. With this in mind, be alert
and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people”…Ephesians 6:18.
And as
I read this verse…I thought Hudson’s prayer request must fit under the
category…”on all occasions with all kinds
of prayers and requests”! J
And
though I smile, I am so thankful that my precious grandsons are learning to
pray at such a tender age!
And I
am so thankful that they feel comfortable sharing their hearts…their concerns
(Emmett praying as he heard the sirens in the distance)…and their frustrations
(as Hudson prayed)!
And as
I watch them…as I listen to their prayers…I realize I can learn so much from
them!
To pray
continuously throughout the day…just as I do when I am with them!
To pray
immediately when something comes to my attention (as Emmett did)…
And it
is ok to share my frustrations with God (just as Hudson did)…
He
already knows what I am thinking and feeling…so I might as well share it with
him!
And
then after I have prayed…I just need to rest in Him…
Trusting
and believing that God will move in a mighty and powerful way…in His timing!
Just as
I am praying for my grandchildren…my children to grow in their relationship
with Jesus Christ…I am praying that I grow as well!
Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for the faith
of a child! Thank you Lord that we can
learn so much from them! Thank you for
tender little hearts…that pray earnestly before you…trusting and believing that
you hear their prayers!
