A Good Name

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.  Proverbs 22:1

The last three and half years, God has blessed us with five grandsons, with the fifth grandson being born just a few weeks ago.

If you know me well, you know I love photos and capturing memories with my camera.  Though I have no professional photography training or experience, every once in a while I capture a great shot (at least it is in my untrained eyes)!

As the proud Gammy, I have taken numerous photos the past few weeks, not only capturing that sweet newborn alone, but with his family and extended family!  And of course, I have taken shots of his sweet cousins too!  So, I have been busy downloading them to my computer, uploading them to Shutterfly, posting them on Facebook and choosing which ones to be made into prints!

As I look at the sweet faces of my children and my grandchildren in each picture, my heart is overflowing with love for them!  Sometimes, I feel as though my heart could burst with the love and joy I have for each of them.

I remember when each of my children were born, praying for them as soon as I knew I was carrying them in my womb!  I remember my husband and me discussing numerous names for each child, trying to choose a name that would fit them and they could wear proudly!

My children have done the same thing, pondering different names for each of their children and then announcing the child's name either shortly before their birth or once the precious child arrived.

And of course, I love the names they have chosen for their children!

As I think about the names of each of my children and grandchildren, I am reminded of what scripture states. A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.  Proverbs 22:1.

My children have grown into Godly young men and women and have been blessed to have a Godly spouse at their sides!  They have represented our family name well.

As I continue to gaze upon the beautiful photos of my grandchildren, I pray that they too will wear their names proudly, growing into Godly young men and women of God.  I pray they will seek after God with all their hearts, soul and mind, desiring HIM more than anything of this world.

One of the greatest gifts I can give my children and grandchildren is to pray for them daily.

Dear Heavenly Father…I lift up each one of my children and grandchildren to you, asking that your loving arms would surround them today and every day!  I pray each of them will follow you all the days of their lives, wearing the name "Child of God" humbly, desiring to always bring glory and honor to your name.
