Atoning Sacrifice

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world…1 John 2:2.

One of my grandsons, Graham, loves airplanes!  So, I was extremely excited when his parents asked me to join them for an afternoon at Bloomington airport for “Open Cockpit” Day!  This day allows patrons to view the planes up close, as well as, view inside the various aircrafts.

I have driven past this small airport numerous times and viewed the smaller aircrafts, but was thrilled to see the planes up close!

It was fun to see Graham and Emmett climb up inside some of the planes and helicopters.  There were numerous gadgets for them to touch, push and pull! Graham even put a helmet on in one of the airplanes, and of course, he looked absolutely adorable!

As I gazed at my grandsons enjoying their adventure, I realized many of these planes had been through adventures of their own!  Those planes had been flown in real wars.  And the pilots flying those planes had risked their lives defending our country.

An enormous amount of history was represented at this small airport.  The planes were older, marked with dents and dings, representing the countless flights that each plan had been flown.

Several veterans were there to assist the younger ones as they climbed in out of the aircrafts.  I can only imagine the stories they could share with us.

As I looked at each plane and the different veterans represented there that day, I was reminded of all of the service men and women who have fought to defend our country’s rights and freedom.  I don’t think I can truly comprehend the sacrifices that they made for each of us…many of them dying for the freedom that we have today.

And yet, I am reminded of the greatest sacrifice of all.  Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins so that we could spend eternity in heaven with our Heavenly Father.  God’s word states… He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world…1 John 2:2.

God died for me.  He died for you.  He died for each of us.  His shed blood on the cross was for us…it was the atoning sacrifice for our sins.  God loved us so much, that HE sent his one and only son to die on the cross for our sins.

Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for sending your son to die on the cross for our sins.  Thank you that you love us so much that your son was the atoning sacrifice, not just for a few, but also for the whole world.
