Ears to Hear

Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”…Mark 4:9

Just recently my daughter had a work meeting, which provided me the privilege of getting to watch and care for her three precious little ones!

These little darlings bless my heart, and though they keep me busy, I so enjoy the treasured moments I get to spend with them!

On this particular evening, their mommy and I had already gotten the boys in their jammies before she left, so we had the remainder of the evening to have fun together!

As I was sitting on the floor and holding Gabe (who is 41/2 months old), Hudson and Beau were playing around me!  We were pretending that it was nighttime (which it actually was), but we were making animal noises that one might hear at night!

Each of us were doing our best impressions of owls, coyotes, wolves, frogs, dogs, cats…and any other animal that came to our mind!

I would do my best owl impression…and then Hudson would do his impression, followed quickly by Beau!

Each of us would then pick another animal and continue with our impressions.  I’m sure anyone passing by would have thought that there were actual owls, frogs, coyotes, dogs and cats in the living room (or that is what we could like to think)!   And I’m also sure Gabe was looking up at us with complete wander as we continued with our game!

At one point during our fun, Hudson came up to Gabe and said…”When you get bigger, I am going to teach you how to talk”…and Hudson proceed to move his lips so Gabe could see how this all worked!  It was sweet!

We continued with our fun and as it got closer to their bedtime, the boys asked if they could watch a few minutes of TV before heading to bed!

Snuggled together on the sofa with these three precious little boys brings great joy to this Gammy’s heart!  I could sit there forever with them cuddled around me!

However, what was said a moment later literally melted my heart!

As I was holding Gabe on my lap, Hudson and Beau were sitting on each side of me!  Hudson leaned over and kissed Gabe and said to his baby brother…”I am going to try to be good all of that time…making good choices…so that I can be the best big brother ever”!!  Hudson looked over and smiled at me as he said those precious words to his brother!

I gave him a big squeeze and told him I was so proud of him for desiring to be a good big brother!

His words reminded of the scripture…”Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear”…Mark 4:9.

Just as Hudson desires to teach his baby brother to talk someday…and to be a good example to him so that he can be the best big brother ever…God desires to teach us as well!

If I hadn’t been listening…if I hadn’t been paying attention…I would have missed Hudson’s sweet words to his baby brother!

How often do I miss hearing my Heavenly Father’s voice?

How often am I too busy to pay attention to what God is saying to me?  How often am I not paying attention and miss where He is leading me?

How often do I tune His voice out because I am too focused on what’s going on around me?

How often do I miss an important teaching or a valuable lesson just because I wasn’t listening!

How we need to pray and ask for “ears to hear”!!

Just as I love listening to sweet voices of my grandsons (which also includes their attempts at mimicking animal sounds in the night), I long to hear the voice of my Heavenly Father!

Dear Heavenly Father…please give me ears to hear!  I desire to hear your voice each day!  I know you desire to speak to me daily, so I pray that I will be attentive and listening for your voice!  I long to have open communication with you!  Oh, how I love you, Lord!
