Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes
from him…Psalm 62:5.
Happy New Year! I pray the year 2015 be filled with
rich blessings for each of you!
Often, this is a season
where we reflect on the past year and look forward to what the New Year holds
for us!
We are also often making New
Year’s Resolutions…
This year I am going to lose
weight…
This year I am going to
exercise more…
This year I am going to get
out of debt…
This year I am going to work
less and spend more time with my family…
This year I am going to
volunteer and serve more…
This year…(and you can fill
in the blank)!
The number of New Year’s
Resolutions made each year is numerous!
And I’m sure most
resolutions are made with the sincerest hearts…hoping that the goals stated in
the resolutions will be met!
However, often New Year’s
Resolutions are forgotten before the end of January!
We get busy with our
schedules and daily lives, and the commitments that we made at the beginning of
the year quickly get brushed aside with the demands of everyday life!
This year, I have spent a
lot of time “pondering” the days between Christmas and New Year’s!
I confess…my heart has been
heavy! And if I am completely
honest…I have even been anxious about a particular situation that my husband
and I are praying about.
I’ve caught myself being
unusually quiet at different social gatherings. I noticed that I have actually “checked out” when gathered
with friends!
My mind and heart have
wandered during conversations. Unfortunately,
I didn’t even realize this until someone was speaking or asking a question…and
I was clueless as to what had just been said or asked due to my wandering
thoughts!
However, there was one
conversation that I didn’t miss! I
was really listening to one of my dear friends when she was sharing a story
about a precious child who had been volunteering at New Life Pregnancy Center!
My dear friend, Leslie, came
upon this sweet girl when she was quite distressed! The little girl was repeatedly saying, ”There’s no hope”!
As Leslie heard the little
girl’s words, she quickly wanted to assure her that there is always hope! Our hope is in Jesus…our hope comes
from him!
The little girl looked up at
her with questioning eyes! It was
at that moment that one of the little girl’s family members told Leslie that
the little girl hadn’t been saying, “There is no hope”. She wanted to let others know that they
had run out of soap that they had been placing in little bags, so the little
girl was actually saying, “There’s no soap”!
We all smiled as we heard
this precious story, but it spoke directly to my heart!
I had been feeling hopeless
about a particular situation…and this was a gentle reminder to me that there is
always hope when we know Jesus.
His word says…”Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope
comes from him…Psalm 62:5.
His word is true! Our hope does come from the Lord!
The situation my husband and
I are praying about has not changed yet, but it will! Why? My husband
and I are pressing in and praying daily about this situation. My husband has sought Godly counsel as
to how to move forward!
Romans 8:25 states…”But if we hope for what we do not
yet have, we wait for it patiently”.
I know God hears our
prayers! I know God desires to
bring wholeness to the situation we are praying about! And I know God loves his children…He
loves Don and me…and he loves the precious ones we are praying for!
So when I start to feel
anxious…worried…concerned…I will take rest in the Lord…in God alone…for my hope
comes from him. And I wait
patiently for Him to move in a mighty way!
Dear Heavenly Father…I am sure there are others who
have cares and concerns on their hearts at this moment. I pray that they will rest in you alone
God…and knew their hope comes from you!
I pray that each of us will keep our eyes on you each and every day of
this New Year!
