When Delilah saw that he had told her everything, she sent word to the rulers of the Philistines, “Come back once more; he has told me everything.” So the rulers of the Philistines returned with the silver in their hands. After putting him to sleep on her lap, she called for someone to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him. And his strength left him…Judges 16:18-19.
What do two grandsons (cousins who are only four months apart) equal?? Lots of energy…lots of laughs…and lots of fun!
Last week I picked up the boys Sunday afternoon for a sleepover! We immediately headed to Steak-N-Shake for an early dinner! During our meal, I had two individuals come up and ask if they were twins and to tell me how cute they were! Though I had to let them know that they were not twins, I had to agree with them on the other topic…they are definitely very cute!
Their cheeks were rosy as they slurped their chocolate milk shakes with a cherry on top (And yes, Gammy did make them eat almost all of their dinner before they could sample their tasty treat)!
After dinner, we headed to Papa and Gammy’s house for fun!! Lots of laughter erupted from their bubble bath as numerous Toy Story characters joined in the fun!
Aunt Rachel/Graham’s mommy sent magic capsules that amazingly turned into jungle animals when placed in warm water! The boys were enthralled as they patiently waited for the transformation!
They spent quite a bit of time helping their jungle animals back into the cups of warm water for additional drinks and baths!
Our evening continued as the boys played with numerous toys!
As it got closer to bedtime, the boys chose the movie Frozen to watch! Seated on the floor with their blankets and “loveys”, the boys munched on peanut M&M’s and Sour Patch candy as they sang along with all of the Frozen tunes!
Even though I had given them ample warning that their bedtime was soon approaching, neither child looked the least bit sleepy! It was quite the task to get them settled into bed for the evening! They were still ready for more fun!
Each child prayed at bedtime and Gammy settled down beside them, hoping this would encourage the boys to get quiet and fall asleep fairly quickly!
However, the late night conversation took numerous directions as each young cousin shared with each other!
I quietly listened as Hudson shared that he sometimes is afraid of the dark…Graham responded by reaching over and giving Hudson a big hug, telling Hudson that he would protect him. (I know…isn’t that sweet)!!
This conversation led to each boy sharing about their strong muscles, which of course included each cousin feeling the other cousin’s strong muscles.
And of course, the boys then proceeded to share about their strong bones…which of course, meant each boy had to feel their cousin’s strong bones as well!
From that point, (remember, we are following the conversation of 3 ½ to an almost 4 year old) Hudson and Graham proceeded to share how they would take care of any monster that entered the room…with punches and kicks that would defeat even the biggest and fiercest monster!
Though there were several other topics covered during this late night exchange, I was extremely blessed to hear both boys share that they knew that God/Jesus was with them and they didn’t have to be afraid!
This moment of sharing blessed their Gammy’s heart! These young grandsons are blessed to have praying parents who are teaching their young children how important it is to have a relationship with Jesus Christ and to trust Him for all things!
The boys finally fell asleep! Graham woke once around 3:00 a.m., asking it if was morning yet…and why was it taking so long for morning to come! I on the other hand thought it we could all use a little more sleep that night and encouraged Graham to go back to sleep for a little longer!
And though they fell asleep a little later than their normal bedtime, both boys were up early!
To entertain them while I got ready for our day together, we viewed the Children’s Bible App on my iPad!
Amazingly, the boys chose the story about Samson! I fought this was ironic after their late night discussion of how strong their muscles were!
Both boys sat quietly as we followed along the story of Samson!
The boys listened intently as the Bible App shared how God’s people had disobeyed him, so He let the Philistines rule over them for forty years. However, God chose a man named Samson to set them free.
An angel told Samson’s mother that she would have son, but Samson would have to make three promises to God: Never drink wine, never touch dead things, and never cut his hair.
God made Samson very strong. He even killed a lion, and shortly after, bees made honey in the lion. Samson touched the lion, breaking one of his promises to God. He even ate the honey.
Eventually, Samson fell in love with a woman named Delilah. The Philistines promised Delilah lots of money if she would discover why Samson was so strong.
Delilah asked Samson numerous times about his strength. Finally, he told her that if his hair were cut, his strength would be gone.
Scripture says… After putting him to sleep on her lap, she (Delilah) called for someone to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him. And his strength left him…Judges 16:19.
Again, Samson broke his promise to God but allowing his hair to be cut. With his strength gone, the Philistines captured Samson easily, putting him in prison and setting him to work.
And though Samson’s hair grew back and God allowed his strength to return one last time, there were consequences for his disobedience to God.
The boys loved this story! We discussed how important it is to obey God and when we choose to disobey there are consequences!
Though I love all of the fun things I get to do with my precious grandsons, I’m blessed that they love hearing God’s word! How I pray they will desire to hide God’s word in their hearts!
Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for your inspired word! I pray that each of us would hide your word in our hearts, so that we will not sin against you! Help us to read and meditate on your word daily.
