The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the
distant shores rejoice…Psalm 97:1.
One of the things I enjoy
doing during the summer is riding my bike!
Each bike ride leads me on a
new journey! I love taking different
routes, enjoying the beauty that surrounds me as I pedal along!
Some evenings I follow the
country roads, viewing the vast corn and bean fields as I zip along...marveling
at the green fields that line the country roads!
And when I turn my gaze
upwards, God’s masterpiece fills the skies!
Each day or night is a new
portrait to be gazed upon! Sometimes the
skies are filled with white puffy clouds…changing patterns as they gracefully
move through the blue skies!
Some evenings the skies are
clear and blue, allowing me to view the beauty of the setting sun!
And occasionally, I have
ridden when the skies are dark and ominous…. revealing the threat of brewing
storm!
And though I love riding in
the country, some days or evenings I choose to ride through town…viewing the
beautiful homes and manicured lawns as I ride through our small town!
As I pass through town, I
smile as giggles and laughter ring out from children playing in their
yards.
As I pass the busy ball diamonds,
I’m reminded of the countless evenings I spent watching my children play ball…relishing
in those precious memories!
And I can’t help notice
family and friends enjoying a beautiful summer evening as they spend time
outside!
I’m not alone as I travel
through town! Numerous individuals are
out walking, jogging or riding their bikes as well…greeting one another as they
pass by!
And because I love riding so
much, often I will disregard the dark clouds brewing as I head outside,
thinking I can get a quick ride in before the heavens open up and rain down on
us!
As a matter of fact, I was
recently caught in a rainstorm during my ride!
Always the optimist, I thought I could outride the storm and return home
before it broke loose, but I was wrong!
Though I pedaled quickly, I
was drenched in a matter of minutes!
Some might have been upset to
be caught in the heavy downpour, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Lifting my face to the skies,
I let the rain pour down on me as I smiled and laughed at my situation!
Though the skies were dark
and threatening, I knew I was not alone…my God was with me!
I thought of one of my
favorite praise and worship songs as I lifted my heart in an attitude of praise
and worship!
Open up the heavens
We want to see you
Open up the floodgates
A mighty river
Flowing from your heart
Filling every part of
our praise
(Chorus from “Open up the Heavens” by
Meredith Andrews)
I felt as
though the Lord had opened up the floodgates like a mighty river, and I was
getting to enjoy this time with him! No
one else was out…it was just God and me…sharing this moment!
As I
continued my wet ride, my prayer was not just rain on me Lord…but “Reign on me! Reign on
my family and friends…reign over this earth”!!
Oh Lord…we need you! Open up the heavens…we want to see you!
God’s word says… The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let
the distant shores rejoice…Psalm 97:1.
Our God sits on the throne…He
is in control…He reigns over the whole earth…let us be glad and rejoice in
HIM!!
You may not feel led to walk
or ride in the pouring rain, but how I pray that you spending time with the
Lord each day!
He desires to hear your
prayers…the cries of your heart! He
desires to spend that one-on-one time with you!
And who knows…maybe you are a
little like me…and would feel completely refreshed as you allowed the heavens
to open up and rain on you…or more importantly…allowing God to reign over you!
Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for the times of
refreshing! How I pray that you would
open up the floodgates like a mighty river…flowing from your heart…filling
every part of our praise as we come before you!
Oh, how I love you, Lord!
