Did you know that birds are
very protective of their nests?
If you think about it…it
makes sense! I can only imagine how many
hours are spent turning twigs and tiny branches into a home for small eggs and
future baby birds!
The amount of time spent in
building a nest is definitely a labor of love!
Recently, my dear friend and
co-worker shared how she had spent a considerable amount of time staring out
her window as she watched two birds trying to declare that the nest that had
been built outside her window was theirs!
It appeared that the smaller
bird had built the nest, but every time she flew away, a robin flew over to the
nest and proceeded to claim it as her own!
As you can see by the
picture, the robin didn’t even fit into the nest, but apparently that didn’t
matter to her!
The nest was to high for my
friend to peer into, so she was unsure if there were eggs in the nest, but that
didn’t stop the robin from trying to settle into the small nest!
However, the robin didn’t
get too settled before the smaller bird quickly returned to reclaim her home!
That tiny bird was not
afraid of the larger bird and there was no way she was going to give up her
home without a fight!
My friend said this scenario
continued for several minutes…
Each time the tiny bird flew
away…the robin came and tried to settle into the nest…but the smaller bird
would immediately return to the nest, taking her home back from the robin!
I smiled as I pictured the
interaction between those two birds!
I thought of the smaller
bird…standing up to the larger bird…possibly protecting eggs that may have been
in the nest…or fighting for the home that would soon host eggs and baby birds!
I think of the labor of love
that was put into the home that this small bird had built for her future family!
And I smile as I think of
the spunk she displayed to the robin…making sure that the robin knew she didn’t
stand a chance of stealing her home!
And then I thought of the
little ones…the sweet children God had blessed me with and I’m sure I would
have been just as spunky as that small bird if an intruder had tried to come
into my home and settle in!
I would have done anything
to keep my babies safe from that intruder!
God’s word reminds us that
Satan is roaming this earth…looking for someone to devour!
Just as the robin intruded
this small bird’s home…Satan would love nothing more than to intrude into our
homes…into our lives.
God’s word tells us…The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come
from?” Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”…Job 1:7
Satan roams the earth with
impure motives…
Hoping to tempt us…
Hoping to lead us astray...
Accusing us…and creating
havoc wherever he can.
Satan…God’s enemy…would love
nothing more than to destroy those who love God!
While we are on this earth,
we must remain sober and vigilant…just as the small bird did!
That little bird did not let
her guard down and we shouldn’t either!
God’s word reminds us to…Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the
devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour…1 Peter
5:8.
Just as that small bird was
prepared to fight for her family and home…we too must be prepared for the
battle!
And the battle occurs on our
knees…praying and interceding for our loved ones!
We can remain strong in the
Lord and His might power by…
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take
your stand
against the devil’s schemes.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but
against the
rulers, against the authorities, against the powers
of this dark
world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the
heavenly
realms.
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when
the day of
evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and
after you
have done everything, to stand.
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled
around your waist,
with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and
with your feet
fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel
of peace.
In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith,
with which you
can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil
one.
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the
Spirit, which
is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all
kinds of prayers
and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always
keep on praying
for all the Lord’s people…Ephesians 6:11-18!
Just as that small bird
fought for her home…her family…let’s do the same for ours!!
Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for equipping us with
your armor so that when evil comes our way…we may be able to stand our
ground! Help us to be alert…praying
without ceasing for our loved ones!
