It Is Written...

I love picking up little gifts for my grandchildren!

I am pretty sure my husband would agree with that statement!

And sometimes it is just simple, little things that I think they might enjoy!!

For example, I love searching the dollar bins as you walk into Target…you never know what treasures you might find hidden in those bins!

I might find a fun craft that we could do together!

It might be a new coloring book!

Bubbles…

Bathtub paint…

Glow sticks…

The treasures are endless in those bins!

However, one of my favorite treasures wasn’t found in the Target bins!

I actually heard about it while listening to WBGL at work one day!

It was the week before Easter and the Easter baskets were already full and ready for my darling grandsons!

However, I heard Meredith (one of the radio show hosts) encouraging listeners to go to her Facebook page for wonderful gift basket ideas for small children’s Easter baskets!

I couldn’t resist!  I just had to see if she had any great gift ideas that I might like to add to my grandchildren’s Easter Baskets!

And she did!

ABC Scripture Memory cards!

I fell in love with this gift immediately!

I love the thought of helping and encouraging my grandchildren to read and memorize scriptures!

There was a scripture for them to memorize for every letter of the Alphabet!  I was so excited!

I e-mailed our print shop at Millikin to ask if they would be able to assist me in printing the scriptures on cardstock and if so, could they charge it to my account.

I was thrilled to see the returned e-mail from a co-worker, stating that she would be happy to make me several sets for my grandchildren!

And though their Easter baskets were filled with all sorts of goodies…this truly was one of my favorite gifts to give to them!

I want my grandchildren to love God’s word…to know it…to be able to speak it out loud when necessary!

I not only desire this for my grandchildren, but I desire to know God’s word as well!

Each of us faces temptations every day, so it is important to know what God’s word says… to have His word hidden in our hearts…and to be able to speak it when necessary!

Jesus did just that.

After Jesus was baptized, he was led into the wilderness and was tempted by Satan.

After fasting forty days and forty nights, Satan…the temper came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”…Matthew 4:3.

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’…Matthew 4:4.

Then the devil took Jesus to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple and said, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down.  For it is written:  “He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone”…Matthew 4:5-6.

Jesus answer him, “It is also written:  ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test’…Matthew 4:7.

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor and said, “All this I will give you if you will bow down and worship me”…Matthew 4:8-9.

Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan!  For it is written:  ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only’…Matthew 4:10.

Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, hoping Christ would sin against God.

But Christ answered all of the temptations from Satan with, “It is written”.

Jesus knew what was written in the scriptures and could use the word of God when Satan tried to tempt him.

Jesus set an example for us…that we too must respond to Satan’s temptations with God’s word!

We need to read the bible…to study scriptures…to memorize his word so that when temptation comes our way, we can respond to Satan with the word of God, keeping us from giving into his temptation!

Jesus set a wonderful example to us!

I am hoping and praying that my grandsons will learn this valuable lesson at a young age…knowing what the bible says and being able to respond with God’s word!

And I am hoping that I continue to study…and yes, memorize scripture at my age (I kept a copy of the ABC Scripture memory verses and I am working my way through the alphabet too)!!

Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for the word of God…and thank you for Christ’s example to us!  Help us to follow His example!
