I’m sure each of us have either heard…or said this expression numerous
times!
I’m so busy!!”
It’s true! Most of us lead
extremely busy lives!
And many of us try to pack more and more activities into our already busy
schedules …which can be extremely overwhelming at times!
Let’s face it...there are certain responsibilities that just need to be
completed each day:
Eating…
Bathing…
Sleeping…
Going to work or school…or maybe both…
And if you have little ones…you are definitely busy taking care of those
little darlings which could lead you in numerous directions at the same time!!
Then there are the tasks that we perform weekly:
Cleaning…
Projects around the home…
Laundry…
Yard Work…
Grocery shopping…
And these are just a few of our weekly duties!
And then on top of our daily/weekly responsibilities…there are things we
just want to do!
For me, that would include:
Morning devotionals/bible reading/journaling/prayer time…
Church/Bible studies
Reading…
Knitting…
Baking…
Writing/blogging…
Exercising…which includes doing a variety of workout programs, walking,
jogging, riding my bike…and whatever else I feel like attempting? J
Watching my precious grandsons…
Spending time with my husband/ children/family/friends…
And the list could go on forever…just as yours could too!
The days and weeks fly by!
So what promoted the topic of busyness?
A squirrel!!
I noticed a small squirrel resting on a tree branch outside my window at
work this week!
Resting is probably not the exact word I should be using to describe
this little creature!
This little squirrel was sprawled out on the branch…little legs
extended… appearing to be dead to the world!!
Never stirring…seeming to be the most relaxed creature on campus!
I watched this squirrel for a few minutes…waiting for him to budge…he
was downright oblivious to the world around him!
If I am honest…I was a little envious of that squirrel!
It was a gorgeous day and I could imagine myself sitting outside…soaking
up the sun…or lounging in a hammock with a good book…
Just chillin!!
And I realized…that is exactly what God tells us to do...Rest!
After six days of creating this amazing world, God rested.
His word states…Then God blessed
the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done…Genesis 2:3.
After a busy week of creating…God ceased from all work and rested!
God did not rest as one who was exhausted or weary, but as one who was
well-pleased with His last six days of awe-inspiring creativity!
And God tells us to do the same!
We need to step away from our hectic schedules…finding time to rest and
relax.
“Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you…Deuteronomy 5:12.
If you are like me…sometimes it is hard to sit still…not to be on the go
constantly!
But sometimes our bodies are craving a time of rest!
And we need to do just that!
And seriously…if you could have seen that little squirrel’s face…you
would have seen peace…contentment…pure bliss!
You don’t have to climb a tree (but you can)…but find a little secluded
place…and just rest in the Lord!
I’m sure you’ll walk away…feeling refreshed and ready to conquer the
busyness of the week ahead!
Dear Heavenly Father…as each of
us lead extremely busy lives, I pray that we find time to rest…and most of all…rest
in you…allowing for that time of refreshing that only comes for You!
