Cling to What is Good

I will set nothing wicked before my eyes…Psalm 101:3

I love that I live in an area where I get to enjoy the changing seasons, but I think fall has to be my favorite season!

I love the glorious colors of the changing leaves…yellows, oranges and reds.  They are absolutely breathtaking!

I love walking or driving through the country and seeing the farmers harvesting their crops!

I love waking up to crisp…cool mornings and enjoying the warmth of the sun on my skin as it begins to warm up throughout the day!

I love high school football games…watching the games under Friday night-lights!

I love cookouts…roasting hotdogs…making s’mores…enjoying hayrides…drinking hot cider or hot chocolate…and spending precious moments with family and friends!

I love going to the pumpkin patch with my children and grandchildren…watching their expressions of joy as they spend the day there!

I love decorating my home for fall…hanging beautiful wreaths…decorating porches with pumpkins and mums…burning fall candles that smell of pumpkin, cinnamon and spices.

What can I say…I love everything about this season!

Except for one thing…

This is the time of year that numerous horror movies are created!  Not only are they created, but they are also advertised repeatedly on TV throughout the evening while you are trying to enjoy your favorite show!

The images that are displayed…which try to encourage and entice viewers to see those particular movies…are very disturbing!  Actually, they are evil…and I literally have to turn my head away from the horrifying images and sounds coming from my TV screen.

The images and sounds are so chilling that I will quickly try to switch the channel or leave the room, so I will not have any remembrance of what was displayed on the TV.

God’s words says… I will set nothing wicked before my eyes…Psalm 101:3.  These movies are evil…they are wicked…and they are not appropriate to view.

God also tells us to “Abhor what is evil.  Cling to what is good”…Romans 12:9. 

In a world that is full of beauty…and evil…we need to focus on what is good…what is beautiful…and turn away from evil and the wickedness that surrounds us…we need to cling to what is God.  We need to cling to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Enjoy the fall season…and all of the wonderful and beautiful things that go along with this particular time of year.  And when the evil things of this world…things that do not bring glory to God…are placed in front of you...turn your eyes away and focus on what is good!

Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for the changing seasons!  Thank you for fall and all of the beauty that makes up this season.  And just as you encourage us to look upon what is good…help us to turn away from the evil and wickedness that surrounds us.  Help us to keep our eyes upon you!
