Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is
plentiful but the workers are few”…Matthew 9:37.
I love spending time with my
sweet grandsons! Every moment
spent with them is such a blessing!
My daughter-in-love, Rachel,
has been teaching at Millikin this semester, so I have had the pleasure of
watching Graham and Emmett during many of the Friday afternoons she is
teaching!
However, this particular
Friday was a little more special…Graham was having a sleepover with Gammy! We have talked about this for a while,
and finally found a weekend that worked!!
We had dinner with his mama
and Emmett and after they left to head home, Graham and I finished watching the
Disney movie…A Fox and a Hound! Thought it was a little past his
bedtime, I loved snuggling with him as we finished the movie!
The next morning Graham
helped me make homemade chocolate chip pancakes, and yes, he popped a few
chocolate morsels in his mouth as helped me! Who could resist!
Our plans for the day were
to run a few errands and head to Millikin’s homecoming football game! Our drive to Maroa was filled with
sweet conversation as Graham chatted and asked numerous questions during our drive!
And though we were busy
chatting, I couldn’t help but notice the beauty of the season! Trees had a hint of changing colors and
the farmers were in the fields harvesting their crops!
During fall, one of my
favorites places to drive or walk is down a country road, providing me an opportunity
to enjoy this magnificent season!
I just marvel at the fields, ready and ripe for harvest! I stand in awe of the splendor of it
all!
This day was no
different! Graham and I even took
a detour as we drove home, just so I could look at the beauty of the world
around us!
As I viewed the fields, I
was reminded of the scripture which says…The
harvest is plentiful but the workers are few…Matthew 9:37.
There are so many around us
that need to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are so many around us who need to hear an encouraging
word…that need a helping hand…someone to reach out in love to them! Who is willing to share with them…to
give a helping hand? Are you? Am I?
Matthew 9:38 states…Ask the Lord of the harvest,
therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field!
Yes, I need to pray for
workers to be sent into God’s harvest field, but I need to be a willing worker
as well! I need to ask God to use
me and then be willing to go where he leads me.
My morning devotional this
morning focused on Matthew 9:38. Oswald
Chambers from My Utmost For His Highest stated:
“Our
Lord calls us to no special work – He calls us to Himself.
“Pray
the Lord of the harvest,” and He will engineer your
circumstances
to send you out as His laborer”
None of us know how much
longer we have on this earth, but while we are here, we need to make the most
of our time…making sure that we are a part of increasing a work force that is
willing to share God’s love…His message…that is willing to harvest for the
kingdom of God!
We need to pray that God
will use us! We need to be willing
to be one of His laborers!
Enjoy this season! But also be willing to be a part of the
harvest…allowing God use you for His glory!
Dear Heavenly Father…thank you for the beauty that is
all around us during this season of fall!
How I pray that each of us take in the splendor and enjoy the
masterpiece you have painted for us to gaze upon. But as we gaze upon the beauty, may we be willing to be one
of the workers who is willing to help bring in a plentiful harvest. Use us Lord…and may we be willing to be
used.
