We live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7
Last fall, I joined my
daughter and oldest son and their families for a fun day of visiting a pumpkin
patch! It was perfect
weather…chilly enough that you needed jackets or sweatshirts, but not so chilly
that you couldn’t enjoy the day!
Hudson and Graham
immediately joined hands as soon as they got of their cars. These precious boys are only four
months apart and bring me great joy.
Their younger brothers, Beau – Hudson’s younger brother, and Emmett –
Graham’s younger brother, were cradled in carriers worn by their mamas! Their adorable little faces would peak
out every so often!
As we headed to the
pumpkins, Hudson and Graham immediately ran to the pumpkins…eager to climb on
the larger ones and pick up the smaller ones!
From there, we headed to a
play area which contained sandboxes filled with kernels of corn and other
playground equipment! Next, we
went on hayride and stopped to feed the small goats! Though I enjoyed all of the activities, I loved watching the
boy’s expressions as they experienced each activity!
Our next activity was to
walk through a large corn maze!
This corn was tall…it was several feet taller than the adults, so you
can imagine how tiny these precious two-year olds looked walking through the
towering stalks of corn.
The corn maze weaved in and
out in many directions and you had no idea where you were going (our little
group failed to pick up a map, so you can imagine all of us wandering around
through the maze with little direction).
Without a map and no idea
which direction we were headed, we had to walk blindly through the maze. This walk reminded me that we often
walk through life just like that. We
walk through the day blindly, not sure of the path we are on or where the path
is leading.
We take that next step…trusting
that we are headed in the right direction. Sometimes we have to step out in faith and trust in the
unseen verses the seen.
As I held Hudson and
Graham’s precious little hands, they were experiencing a walk of faith! They were not concerned about not being
able to see their way out of the corn maze; they were merely following where
they were being led.
We need to learn from their
example. Often, we need to
faithfully follow God wherever He may be leading us. We may not see where God is leading us...or know God’s destination
for us on that particular day…we simply need to hold his hand and follow
Him. We need to live by faith.
